General Information

  • This event will be held in a covered, but not completely enclosed competition arena. Additional outdoor warmup space will also be available.
  • There must be no more than 50 people present at any time during the competition. This means (depending on entries) that vaulters will arrive shortly before their class, complete their routines, receive their prize and leave the premises before the next group arrives.
  • All individuals who do not reside in the same household will be required to maintain a physical distance of at least two meters at all times. This includes vaulters, lungers, coaches, volunteers and spectators. At any time that it is not possible to maintain a two meter distance, a face mask or shield must be worn.
  • Only members of the same family may enter pairs or team classes.

Arrival

  • All participants and spectators must wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival at the facility. Handwashing and hand sanitizer stations will be available throughout the facility. Sanitize hands after touching any common surfaces or after using the washroom.
  • Vaulters should arrive no more than 20 minutes prior to their class(es) and proceed directly to their designated warm up area.

Horses

  • There can be only one horse in the cross tie area at a time. Horses may also be tacked in the stall if it is deemed safe, or outdoors in a safe area.
  • One individual must be responsible for tacking the horse.
  • Lungers should have their own whip and lunge line which is not handled by anyone else.

Run-in

  • The horse will run in with only one vaulter.
  • Only one person will handle the side reins or adjust tack. The lunger must carry the whip.
  • The vaulter and lunger will sanitized their hands immediately before entering the competition arena. Sanitizer will be available at the in-gate.
  • The vaulter (and a family member who will boost, if necessary) will run in on the opposite side of the horse to the lunger and will maintain a distance of at least two meters from the lunger. After the salute, the vaulter (and booster) will run to the side of the arena while the horse performs the jog.

Competition

  • After the bell the vaulter (and booster) will approach the horse to mount, keeping a distance of at least two meters from the lunger. This means vaulters will not come to the center of the circle first, but will approach from midway up the lunge line.
  • Vaulters who need assistance to mount may:
    • Be boosted by a family member at any gait or at standstill
    • Use the provided mounting block
  • The deduction for an assisted mount will be as indicated in the Vaulting Rules. There will be no additional deduction for mounting in a different gait or from a mounting block.
  • Vaulters in walk, trot and beginner canter classes will complete both their compulsories and freestyle in one run-in. Vaulters will first perform compulsories, dismount and return to the side of the arena. When signaled by the bell, they will return to the horse and perform their freestyle. Vaulters are welcome to wear their freestyle uniform for compulsories. The judge may communicate with the vaulter about when they are ready to perform the freestyle.
  • Vaulters in canter classes will generally perform their compulsories and freestyle in separate goes. Depending on the number of entries, vaulters might need to leave the facility after their compulsories and return later for their freestyle. This will be determined once the schedule is complete. Coaches may request that a canter vaulter perform their compulsories and freestyle in one go.

Run-out

  • After completing the performance, the vaulter (and booster) will run to the side of the arena while the lunger brings the horse to the center of the circle for the salute.
  • The vaulter will salute from the opposite side of the horse to the lunger, and will maintain a distance of at least two meters from the lunger during the salute and run-out.
  • Only one person will remove and side reins and adjust tack.
  • The vaulter and lunger (and booster) will sanitize their hands after exiting the competition arena. Sanitizer will be available at the out gate.

Awards

  • The awards presentation will depend on the number of entries, but will not be conducted as a typical end-of-competition ceremony.
  • Awards will be sanitized and displayed individually on the awards table. Ribbons and any other prizes will be sanitized and placed in individual plastic bags before being placed on the awards table. Vaulters must only touch their award.

Sanitizing tack between competitors

  • It is understood that vaulters must share tack. However, utmost care must be taken to sanitize tack between vaulters. The schedule will be designed so that a horse does not have back-to-back goes so that there is ample time for proper disinfecting of the equipment. Coaches/lungers are responsible for providing supplies for disinfecting their tack between goes.
  • One person must be responsible for sanitizing the horse’s tack.

Spectators

  • Due to the 50 person maximum attendance, there will be a limit on the number of spectators permitted to attend. This will depend on entry, but families should expect that only one or two spectators will be allowed to accompany each vaulter. The exact number will be determined once the schedule has been complete.
  • Spectators must wash or sanitize their hands upon arrival and after touching common surfaces or using the washroom.
  • Spectators must bring their own chairs and sit/stand only in the designated area.
  • Spectators must at all times maintain a physical distance of at least two meters away from any person not in their household. Face masks or face shields are recommended.
  • Small children should not attend this event if it will be difficult to restrict their movement. Young children in strollers etc are permitted.
  • No dogs

Competition Management

  • If the scribe is from the same household as the judge, no extra precautions are necessary, other than they regularly sanitize their hands before and after handling scoresheets. Sanitizer will be available on the table.
  • If the scribe is not from the same household as the judge, they must be seated at a separate table, at least two meters away. The judge and scribe may communicate via cel phone or walkie-talkie or similar device.
  • If a timer is used, and they are not from the same household, they must be seated at least 2 meters away from the judge
  • Before picking up a scoresheet, the scribe will sanitize their hands. After recording the scores or comments on the score sheet, the scribe will sanitize their hands again and pass the score sheet to the judge for signature etc. The judge will also sanitize their hands before touching the scoresheet. Once the judge is finished with the score sheet it will be placed in the basket provided to be picked up by the data person. The basket will be kept at least two meters away from the judges stand.
  • The data person will be seated at least two meters away from other volunteers. No other person should touch the data computer. When score sheets are ready, the data person will retrieve them from the basket. The data person will sanitize their hands before and after handling each batch of score sheets.
  • Completed score sheets will be placed in folders for each club to collect after the competition.
  • The music person will be seated at least two meters away from other volunteers. No other person should touch the music computer.
  • If it is necessary to change staff during the day, all equipment will be well sanitized prior to use by another person.
